Meet our project

➙  Hellowe are Alexandra Popescu, Irene Poza, Ă€ngela Jurado and Norah Cifuentes from a school in Spain. We are doing an Erasmus Programme with other 4 schools in Europe so here you have our blog about out topic: NEW CLIMATE.
In this blog we talk about the information that different groups have searched about the new climate, climate changes, how it will affect us... We also have a section about news of the climate change.
➙ We will update all this information weekly.

What is the Erasmus Programme?

➙ The Erasmus Programme is an European Union (EU) student exchange programme. It is the new programme combining all the EU's current schemes for education, training, youth and sport…
➙ The Erasmus Programme, together with a number of other independent programmes, was incorporated into the Socrates programme established by the European Commission in 1994.

To have a closer experience with the other schools participating in the Erasmus programme, 5 students of our school have gone to the Isle of Wight in England for one week. There, they explain how are we working here in Spain and compare how do they work there, also sharing some information and doing some visits related to the efficiency of transport on the island.

News about the climate change

➙ In this part of the blog we are explaining some notices and world wide news about the climate change, how it affect in the world, for example with the new president Donald Trump that thinks that the climate change is a natural thing thah happens to the earth and we aren't the cause...

Rising sea swallows several Pacific islands.
➙ A group of researchers has found that in a few decades several islands in the Pacific Ocean have vanished under the sea. We have seen images taken by a satellite. We observed since 1947. Since the last century the ocean has risen about 3 millimeters per year, but since 1994 up to 7 millimeters per year.

Trump's victory endangers the pact against climate change
➙ Donald Trump, skeptical about climate change, has reached the presidency at a delicate time for the Paris Accord against climate change. There is a risk of repeating the fiasco of the Kyoto Protocol, the main power in the world signed but did not ratify it soon. The momentum of Barack Obama has been determined that this agreement was reached and that came into force. But his replacement, Republican Donald Trump, just bet the opposite.
THE OCEAN SWALLOW FIVE METERS FROM LAND OF EBRE EACH YEAR

➙ The force of the waves impede that the contribution of sediments that the river can secure in the mouth and the erosion of the bank is constant.
The Institute of Food Research and Technology (IRTA) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) want realise a plan that tries to stop the wear of the wetland, against the deterioration of the Delta.
The actuation unfolds on the northern Delta and find trace a line of containment to 3 km of the beach, where it isn’t introduced an element, but the beach is holding wall itself. It expect to counteract the effect detrimental of the salt water recovered a part of the river Ebre.

THE CONCENTRATION OF CO2 EXCEED ALL THE SEARCH HISTORICALS

➙ For the first time the Earth has exceeded the number of 400 ppm CO2. The principal problem is that will take millenniums to reduce this concentration of CO2, especially in the oceans. An observatory, for the first time caught a very high concentration of carbon dioxide in the air in a Hawaiian volcano, this air altered by fossil fuels. It was in May 2013.
According to the World Meteorological Organization announces the mark of 400 ppm was generalized and worldwide and no seasonal change will lower the CO2.
The climate change cause 2500 deaths

➙ Because of the high temperatures, can shoot up the deaths because of heatwaves annuals, from 300, will pass to 2500 at 2050 in Catalonia. The people that have more danger are the oldest people and the people that have disease chronic.
1’55 degrees has increased since 1950 and it’s expected that 1’4 degrees go up before arrive at 2050. And with the augment of the air pollution will cause 3500 premature deaths annuals.
According to studies, suggests that there will be increased in extreme temperatures, heatwaves, nights above 20 degrees.
There will be consequences for asthma attacks and allergies. Increase the risk of tropical diseases such as dengue, malaria and with diseases for the worsening of water. Catalonia may have lost water resources, this will cause droughts meteorological, hydrological and agricultural more sterns, which will increase fire danger and cardiopulmonary deaths

2016 was the hottest year on record, UN says:

➙ 2016 was the hottest year on record an a new high for the third year in a row according to the UN. It means 16 of the 17 hottest years on record in this century.
The record-smashing heat led to searing heat waves across the year: for example there is a new high of 42.7C was recorded in Pretoria, South Africa in January; Mae Hong Son in Thailand saw 44.6C on 28 April and also Phalodi in India reached 51.0C in May and Mitribah in Kuwait recorded 54.0C in July. Parts of Arctic Russia also saw extreme warming - 6C to 7C above average.

Is the Isle of Wight an area threatened by climate change?

10/02/2017

As every week, we have interviewed this group but they don't have much information. One of the last things they did was a little summary about the things they have done, and they have also a graphic about the Global temperature and Carbon Dioxide.

20/01/2017

This group talk about the Isle of Wight in England, if it's an area threatened by climate change, so they told us that they are looking for some information about this island.

➙The last week this group search about the adaptation of the climate in the island and its level of the sea.

Will global warming produce new animal migrations?

03/03/2017
➙ This weeks they have been doing a biology project. It's about how the grass grow up according to the conditions where is cultivated. They take 2 trays and they put:
 -Sand
 -Clay
 -Fertilizer
 -Gravel
➙ After that they have cultivated the grass and they watered them once a week, so they have to see the evolution and take photos of it

10/02/2017
They continued searching information in diferent documentaries, asking teachers... more or less the same as the last week.

27/01/2017

➙This group in these last weeks has got lot of new information. They have spoken with some biology teachers about this topic, they also search some books about that in the library, they look at some webs, some documentaries about how climate change affects to animals…

20/01/2017

This group search information about how global warming affect to the animal migrations, so they began organizing two groups: vertebrates and invertebrates and they have also searched some information about the emigrations of these animals.

How can we can calculate sea level rise caused by climate change? Which areas are supposed to be underwater in 2050?

10/02/2017

➙ In this week we haven't got too much information about that group, but they told us they are starting a new part in this project, we will see it next week

27/01/2017

➙ After the last week, they continued searching information and grafics that can be interesting for their project

20/01/2017

We interview this group that search information of how can we calculate the sea level rise caused by climate change and they told us, they have information from NASA about the level of the water.
➙ They have different maps with how we get the water today and they have also some graphics about the level of water.
➙ This week the group organize all the information among them and they also searched more information apart from what do they had.

Here is a picture of the grafics they found about the global temperature...

How can we calculate desertification caused by climate change? Which areas are supposed to be desertified in 2050 in our country?

10/02/2017
➙In this week this group searched the two types of deserts: Hot deserts and Polar deserts, different examples and also they have sarched the tipes of the erosions.

27/01/2017

This group went to an excursion in “la Conca de Vallcebre” and they learnt more things about their project, they also have more information and have decided to make an experiment with some bottles. The bottles have sand and grass, only sand ... and more combinations. Then they put water and saw how much water was lost and how much took the plants for them.

20/01/2017

This group is about how can we calculate desertification caused by climate change and the areas that are supposed to be desertified in 2050 so they are looking the areas that will be affected in 2050, the areas where is happening right now, the effects, why…

Is there a relationship between allergies and climate warming in Catalonia?

03/03/2017

➙ First of all, they finished the surveys so they put all the information in an excel to organize it. They have also done the base of the project with the objectives, the hypothesis and the conclusions. They have advanced a lot these days.

10/02/2017

➙They have been organizing the surveys that will do in this weeks in the school asking people of different ages and groups to have more information with their experiences.

20/01/2017

This group search information about the allergies in Catalonia that can be produced or affected because of the climate change and they told us that they have made some surveys to different people to have more information about that
